Thor’s Cate Blanchett cast in TV series with Game of Thrones star

Cate Blanchett is set to return to Documentary Now! after appearing in its third season.

The Marvel actresswho recently starred in Don’t Look Up and Nightmare Alleywill feature in the upcoming chapter of the delightfully absurdist mockumentary series created by SNL gang Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Rhys Thomas.

The two-time Oscar winner will be joining the cast of the episode titled ‘Two Hairdressers in Bagglyport’, where she’ll star alongside Killing Eve‘s Harriet Walter (via TVLine).

Drawing inspiration from fashion documentaries such as Three Salons at the Seaside and The September Issuethe episode will offer a fly-on-the-wall-style look at a slice of life in the small coastal village of Bagglyport as a salon owner, played by Walter, and her staff (Blanchett) prepare their yearly stylebook.

Armisen is also set to appear as George the Postman.

This marks Blanchett’s second appearance in the series, after she previously featured in season 3’s ‘Waiting for the Artist’ back in 2019.

In line with its previous installationsthe new season of Documentary Now! once again boasts a star-studded cast.

Alongside Blanchett and Walter, the new series also features Game Of Thrones and The Crown actor Jonathan Pryce, with the Welsh thespian set to star in ‘How They Threw Rocks’ alongside Trystan Gravelle (A Discovery of Witches) and John Rhys-Davies (IndianaJones), plus Welsh singer Tom Jones.

Inspired by When We Were Kingsthe episode will zero in on the Welsh sport of Craig Maes, also known as Field Rock, and the iconic 1974 bout that went down in history as The Melon vs The Felon.

Another episode, titled ‘My Monkey Grifter,’ will pay homage to acclaimed documentary My Octopus Teacher. It follows Benjamin Clay (The Afterparty‘s Jamie Demetriou), a filmmaker who establishes a deep, emotional and financially taxing bond with a monkey. Armisen will star as Detective Blakely.

These three episodes will form part of Documentary Now!‘s fourth season, with additional guest stars and three more documentaries set to be announced at a later date.

Documentary Now! will air later in 2022 on AMC+ in the US. Seasons 1-3 are available to stream now in the UK on Prime Video.
