Game of Thrones is coming back to the small screen later this year with the premiere of the House of the Dragon prequel. However, as confirmed by George RR Martin a few months back, HBO is also working on several other spin-offs at the moment.

If Arya’s going west of Westeros, Jon Snow’s probably going north as far as north goes.

Kit Harrington to star in Game of Thrones sequel

Apparently, one of these Game of Thrones-related projects is a series with Kit Harrington as Jon Snow once again in what’s presumably a sequel to Game of Thrones.

The initial report comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, which claims that the Game of Thrones sequel has already entered early development. If true, then it would mark the first time that we’ll see the continent of Westeros again following the separation of The North from the rest of the Kingdoms with Bran Stark seated as the ruler of the remaining six. As it would center around Jon Snow, we can only assume that it will explore his life beyond the Wall alongside Tormund Giantsbane.

We’re curious to find out what kind of dangers still lie north of the Wall now that the Whitewalkers are no more.

Hopefully, Jon Snow’s return will pave the way for potential cameos of other fan-favorite Game of Thrones characters such as Maisie Williams’ Arya Stark and Peter Dinklage’s Tyrion Lannister, among others.

What’s more interesting here is that a Jon Snow-led spin-off feels a lot like HBO’s attempt at replicating the success of Disney Plus with its own spin-offs. At the moment, the popular streaming service is enjoying a massive viewership due to the popularity of shows such as the ongoing ones like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ms.Marvel.

Besides, in terms of finances, bringing back Harrington with the occasional cameo will cost HBO a lot less than fielding an entire crew of proven stars. If nothing else, the rumored Jon Snow series could slot in nicely in between the multiple planned seasons for House of the Dragon.

Speaking of, House of the Dragon is shaping up to be an expensive endeavor for HBO, and one that might not pay off if audiences still have residual resentment from how Game of Thrones ended. To date, many of the series’ fans still can’t get over how the showrunners “butchered” and “rushed” the last few seasons. But, judging from the reception to the latest trailerfans are surprisingly positive about the return of the fantasy-drama series, so we’re hoping that House of the Dragon will deliver.

Luckily, House of the Dragon’s premiere is only a little over two months away on August 21.
